Why did you start Anakrasia Education?
The majority of education/”tutoring” businesses approach tutoring as a commodity—instructors are interchangeable and companies compete on price. In such a commoditized market, revenue is the bottom line and tutoring businesses are exactly that: businesses. As tutoring groups lower prices toward market equilibrium and hire increasingly less-competent instructors, focus on students ultimately falls to the wayside.
Thus, in an effort to return focus to the student and student learning, I launched Anakrasia Education.
What is the main barrier to student success?
In my experience, the main barrier to student success is accountability and follow through. While educational consulting helps guide, there is no replacement for the student doing the work. In fact, the number of existing academic issues that would be solved by investing the necessary time and effort is quite high. Learning is sometimes difficult, yet few good things come without hard work. The goal of homework is not to be punitive, but rather to encourage intellectual exploration and push students to think.
How can students prepare for rigorous high school and university study?
Focus on learning. Learn to think, analyze, synthesize, and truly understand. At the end of the day, there is no substitute for doing the hard work. The process, however, can be immeasurably rewarding, so long as one chooses to enjoy the process. And one can choose to enjoy the process.

What is your rescheduling policy?
Rescheduling must be prior to 24 hours before each appointment. Repeated and constant rescheduling may lead to booking restrictions (TLDR: please be mindful and considerate when booking and rescheduling, and there should be no issues)
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be prior to 24 hours before each appointment. Cancellations fewer than 24 hours in advance will be treated as missed sessions and charged the full fee. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for rare occurrences or emergencies.
I bought a 40-hour package and need only another 20 hours. Do I have to pay the higher rate for a 20-hour package?
No. Once you’ve purchased a 40-hour package, all additional hours you add will be prorated at the 40-hour package hourly rate. Similar fee structures apply to other, less-than 40-hour package scenarios. Email [email protected] to set up the fee structure.
Do you offer in-person appointments?
The majority of appointments are done through Zoom for the mutual convenience of the student and instructor. If in-person appointments are strongly desired, they are available on a case-by-case basis with a 100 USD travel/opportunity cost fee each way. We recommend that in-person sessions be two hours or longer to maximize the time spent and value provided.
